Journey was formed in San Francisco in 1973 by guitarist Neal Schon, vocalist/keyboardist Gregg Rolie, bassist Ross Valory, and rhythm guitarist George Tickner. The band has been through various line up changes since then and it's currently composed of Neal Schon (lead guitar, backing vocals), Ross Valory (bass, backing vocals), Steve Smith (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Jonathan Cain (keyboards, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Arnel Pineda (lead vocals). Over the years, their musical style has spanned many genres such as hard rock, arena rock, progressive rock, jazz rock, soft rock and, pop rock. The band saw its strongest commercial success between 1978 and 1987 when they released a series of hit songs (most notably, 1981's Don't Stop Believin', with Steve Perry on lead vocals). They’ve had a stellar career with 14 studio albums, 3 live albums, 8 compilation albums, and 59 singles. Their 8th and most successful album (Escape) topped the US Billboard 200 chart and has been certified Gold in Japan, 3 times Platinum in Canada, and 9 times Platinum in the US. Their worldwide sales have reached close to 90 million records and their songs have been covered by various artists and have been used in numerous films, television shows, video games, and even on Broadway.
